hey guys!

just got a quiry about the hks ssqv bov.. is it actaully plumb back bov or just pure atmospheric..?
have read alot of opinions about it on other forums and getting mixed responses...
people saying it shuldnt flutter and only should make the famous 'chirp' noise wen on boost.
but then there is people saying its normal to flutter on low boost and chirp when on full boost . or can you in a way 'control' the blow off noise depending on how u tighten the spring? is this true?
anyone who has had experience / or have had use this bov , ur input will be very much aprecciated

also if it does flutter, will it be as 'hekticc omgzz' as blocking the bov off completely?

Hay guys, im needing some help/advice. I own a 91 S13 with a SR, started life as a n/a auto and now DET 5 speed... I was driving along enjoying my day untill I turned right and what I thought happened and sounded like I dropped a cylinder, I went home changed the plugs but still no good, it's now two weeks later and I'm at a brick wall... It didn't drop a cylinder it's flooding. Specs... 2.2l TOMEI stroker, 256 with gears and fully built head, T67-25g, 850cc sards, SARD FPR,PFC D JETRO and the usuall bolt on parts.. Things I've checked and done... changed 3 sets of plugs, changed back to stock coil packs and harness as I'm running spitfires, ignitor, removed fail and not leaking, injectors leak and bench tested, fuel pressure is at 45 when struggling and 50 when held at 1000rpm, moid light on injectors, spark plug tester, unplugged and replugged ecu, put in stock ecu and no high lighted readings on my SENCOR CHECK on my commander...it's been two weeks now and I'm struggling to get to the bottom of this problem, just to recap it has fuel and it's getting spark, it floods instantly... I do have another cas to try but other then that I'm out of ideas, I know it's a common problem with the SR so I'm hoping someone will be able to point me the rite way. Cheers...

Chasing an intercooler kit for a rb20 in a 180sx

Like the title says, I'm chasing an intercooler kit for my 180sx. It has an rb20det in it. Standard turbo and plenum.
I'm having no luck finding a kit as everyone I've found is for a forward facing plenum, and I don't have the cash for one of those.
I'm looking for a straight bolt in kit, one that doesn't need any custom pipework, and has a factory/stock appearance as I don't want to attract attention.
If anyone out there can help me out it would be much appreciated.

I have been troubleshooting the issue with my S13 for a while now and a friend recomended swaping the Cam angle sensor.

The car is a stock redtop with an upgraded turbo running stock boost.

When it hits about 5k on full load it sputters shoots flames backfires ect my friend said it happened to his 180. Do they CAS from the VVT motors match up with the non VVT motors as i will put my s14 one in and see what happens if so.

Do in need to put the gear in a certain way or if i just fit it in will it work?

My clutch pedal dropped to the floor the car hasn't been on the road for two years.

Should be a simple fix, but how do I diagnose if master cylinder or slave cylinder.

And also what parts should I upgrade to ie:nismo slave, genuine master and braided line

I had the slave unbolted, didn't move when clutch pushed in, and when I cracked the nipple fluid came out (obviously).

Wreck 'Em dude deeks was up filming for me on the night, unfortunately we lost a bit of film time with a flat battery but my main focus for this video was to show how much of a good vibe these events have rather then the awesome action they contain!

Great for somebody who may want to run skinnier tyres, or for somebody who has the guards to fit them, The rims are in great condition, just slight wear around the lip from tyre changes otherwise no buckles or damage the insides are also immaculate condition no massive dirt or tire buildup always kept in great condition and still sparkle.
Tyres are BRAND NEW and only worn out due to pushing the car around, Still have the stickers!
These wheels were bought brand new from WORK Japan a few years ago id say they arent even 5years old, Not rebuilt like many other wheels you can see out there with extreme width/offset so its a good quality rim for the price!

Currently fitted to my S14 and they fit up fine, guards have been pulled.

And still has plenty of preload!

Friction plate is Exedy heavy duty cushion button, and has done about 5,000km,

And flywheel is an Extreme super light weight Chromoly item and has had one Grind since new,

This setup will easy handle over 300kw.

alot of ppl are telling my that the lt8 are only good for rotarys but the one i can buy has a SR loom.

Some issues really could use some advice

OK, first up the specs. I own a 91 S13 k's with the redtop and an auto trans, the car is basicly stock apart from the gt28r and the full 3inch turbo back exhaust.

The problem... Lately when i get up for work and leave its freezing and the car doesnt even get warm on the way to work, i live in canberra so i hit the hold button to keep the revs nice and low while shes warming up.

The problem arrises on the way home from work when i hit the hold button back to the normal possition once its up to temp. Once i've hit the button back to normal if i give it the boot its splutters and carries on sort of like a boost leak would. The guy at dyno tune when i put it in there just fro a full run over to make sure it was all ok and running nice said that he thinks it starts to lean out under full boost. He thought this might be the reason it would splutter as it was starving under the boost.

I have a suspision that the eco might be on its way out, when i have the hold switch in the normal position and i put up to the lights on occasion it has quite a lumpy idle. I pull up to one set of lights and thought id test something, i hit the switch back to the hold position and the idle went smooth again. The second i put it back in the normal postition it went lump again. I did this a few times and got the same result each time.

So basicly while in the hold position the car runs smooth uner acceleration and at idle, but when the stwich is in the normal position it tends to have a rougher idle and splutter a bit on occasion under boost.

Any ideas, as i said with my limited knowledge i would think ecu from my experience and what the guys a dyno tune said.

Taking it out seems pretty straight forward but what I don't know what to do with is the hard line on the bottom that returns into the block.

problems with BC's and Driftworks knuckles

wondering if anyone has had the same issues as me? Put some rear driftwork knuckles into the s14 and my BC ER's dont go long enough... as it was before i was only 20mm from max full length on the coilover... i could have gone 140mm lower but not higher.. seems odd. So with the knuckles and BC's raised to the max 20mm i can get its still way too low.

Help me pick my next upgrade

I'm getting to the point where my S14A is fairly complete and I want to improve some of the existing key parts, it's just going to take some saving between each one. Usage of the car is 1 lap street sprints up to 5 lap circuit sprints. It's still street registered and full weight. I haven't done a while lot of events in the car, upgrades won't be at the cost of seat time. Current mods are listed further down, the 3 next major outlays I'm choosing between are:

Coilovers: Upgrade HSD 7/5 coilovers to KW v3 6/4 coilovers. I've chosen these over the Koni/Bilstein options for a few reasons including no binding issues with Z32 uprights, but mainly because I can just order and install vs sourcing parts and assembling konis. Net cost approx $1700.

Calipers: Upgrade standard gear to Wilwood Forged Superlites with 310mm 2 piece curved vane rotors. These are quite a bit lighter and replacement rotors/pads are cheap. Will help with temps and fade resistance in longer sprints, not so much the 1 lap sprints. Cost approx $1000.

Diff: Swap S15 HLSD 4.08 ratio to 1.5 way 4.3 ratio to improve traction through and out of corners. Approx $700.

Current mods:

Engine- Currently 230rwkw, needs a tune to get around 250rwkw. Not enough E85 availability here to change over. Cooling is good (typically runs 68-73 degrees), engine is reliable (forged internals, all quality parts and accessories).

Wheels/tyres- Nitto NT-01 255/40/17 on Enkei RPF-01 17x9+22. Better semis would be worth a few seconds but I'll upgrade these when the current set are done. Have ordered a tire pyrometer to assist setup.

Driveline- S15 HLSD with 4.08 ratio, Exedy clutch, standard tailshaft and flywheel (will upgrade these to lightweight items next time clutch needs replacing)

Braking- Standard calipers with A1RM pads and DBA solid face rotors front, TRW pads rear, braided lines, master cylinder stopper, will make some air deflectors

Suspension- HSD HR coilover 7/5 springs, Whiteline swaybars, strut bars, all adjustable arms (Neotech & GKtech) except LCAs, have ordered subframe risers, awaiting GKtech knuckle development to correct front roll centre

Interior- Bride fixed back bucket seat, Power FC & AVCR for monitoring, have ordered lap timing gear

Aero- CWest wing, vented bonnet, will fabricate splitter/undertray/air dams after next event

Car is an S13 with a CA18DET in it, original 145ks on the odometer, unopened.

At the last track day I filled my catch can twice and wasn't making the power I thought it should given the recent mods (I realise the power component of this equation could be tuning alone). A compression test (cold/dry) cam up with 155-160 across the board, new is 170 or so (warm and wet) according to the FSM.

I've since bought a leak down tester and had some odd results. When dialing in some pressure from the regulator, 100psi,The leak down % gauge (it's a twin gauge model) reads off the chart whether it's hooked up to a cylinder or not, and by off the chart I mean 0 is a fully blown cylinder and the other end of the gauge is perfect seal, it's going well beyond the perfect seal portion. As it's a cheap gauge I'm not surprised.

That part aside, if I ignore the % gauge and just use te tool to fill a cylinder and listen for leaks, at 100psi I have noticeable air flow from the valve cap hole (or the dip stick if I put that back in), or the pod filter if I seal that back up and let the air flow from the rockers to the catch can and back into the intake piping.

I realise there will always be some air flow through these channels but how much air should really be flowing past the rings and into the sump, pressuring everything else. Should this be minimal? I'm confident I'm at TDC on the compression stroke also.

To add to the mystery, the car has also been using coolant but there was no air flow in the radiator during my testing of cyl 1, I will test the rest, but I thought I'd stop and clarify what sort of air flow I should hear coming from the valve covers. It seems like a bit to me given it was only 100psi of pressure.

Is it as simple as needing to do the test on a warn engine and am I using the thing wrong if the % leak down gauge climbs up to the set position with only 10-20psi of air in it and then climbs way beyond if you add more? Seems like there should be some way to add the amount of air you want then set that gauge so it knows this is your starting point.

Assistance always appreciated.

venting your coil packs on sr

I here mixed views on this but from what i understand - both heat and obviously water will kill your coil packs. A few people I spoke to said it's good to not have a coil pack cover - some say it doesn't really matter at all. I haven't really killed any coil packs yet but in the last two years I have gone through two coil pack looms, nothing has burnt on them but the plug that goes into coil pack number one seems to stop working and when i replace the loom it's fine agian.

Anyway... is it best to get cooling to them or it doesnt' really matter at all.

I tried to do a build thread once on another forum and biggie told me that it sucked and that I need to tell a story

So pretty much this is the story of my car. It sucked a bit when I got it and it still pretty much does but I've had heaps of fun with it and met some great people

I'll start from just before I bought the car and see where we end up, but first that pic above is just so that you know not to expect too much from me. That's pretty much where we end up and yes it still has an SR20. Also check my friend Jon looking under the bonnet, without him none of this could have happened and I'd probably own a house

OK SO IN 2009 I HAD A REAL GAY RX7, it had horrible plates, 20s even later on it had blue white walls (blue walls?). For this I apologize, mazda I am real sorry

Anyway back then I thought I was killing it, I was working for a bunch of magazines, drinking tonnes of VB and thinking I was just generally being a winning guy with great rotary car

Then i met Shypo who at the time was king of the world, and he became the first friend I had ever had who told me straight up how much I was sucking with my terrible wheels and life. He showed me photos of Tommy Roberts' s13 and said be more like this guy, so I bought some big blue meisters and some red brides and sucked a bit less

It was an ok car but all of a sudden the JDM craze blew up and offset was everywhere. I'm not sure if that was because of me but it might have been, but anyway pretty much RX-7s are hell expensive and so were all the bits I had put on it so I felt like I couldn't really have a lot of fun with it. Also everyone into those sorts of hellaflush cars seemed to hate VLs and I love VLs.

In the mean time I had made friends with town idiot Josh Woods, who at the time was driving this all over the beaches. If I had to pinpoint an exact moment, then this would be where my life went astray

I thought his unpainted RB20 S13 was just the sickest thing ever (and still do). And every time I saw it driving around I remember looking at my Mazda and just thinking man I am in the wrong game. The super clean Mazda that I couldn't do lots of burnouts in was not my calling.

Also Spicy's Avalon Sil80 rocked my world back then in a similar fashion (although at the time I didn't know him)

So I sold the Mazda and quit my job. Billy later told me that he never thought I'd do it. Plan was to go back to uni, buy a Silvia, go drifting and just generally live the good life.

I wanted to buy a car that I could just go out and drift without spending any money or time up front (haven't we all heard that before!). I wanted something pretty basic that I could just ruin and just learn how to drive because at that stage I had even less of an idea of how to steer than I do now.

So I looked for ages and ages for a s13, 180, s14.. whatever would get me out there

By this time it was late 2010 and I had met Biggie, he was sending me links to cars for sale via electronic mail on the reg that I knew I should buy but nothing seemed right. Eventually I found one that was a bit more expensive than what I had planned but I took Shypo and Biggie out with me to check it out and they essentially told me if i didn't buy it I was dead to them.

I didn't want that to happen, so i bought the GO180

just like that life as I knew it was over, fast forward a bit and now I've nearly finished uni and nearly killed both myself and this car. Did some cool stuff and some silly stuff too

I got some pretty much brand new VS-XXs up for sale. These are the real deal 3 piece mesh bad boys, painted in the semi-order colour range in Platinum Gold at a cost of $100 extra per rim. Probably one of the only sets in Australia in this colour and these sizes.

Fronts are 18x9 +0 (100mm dish) and rears are 18x10.5 +14 (110mm dish) wrapped in 99% fresh Feddy 595 SS 225/40 front and 235/40 rear.
Quality is outstanding as you'd expect from Work and the rims are still practically brand new. One has a tiny scratch in the dish but is barely noticeable unless you're an absolute fiend. I imported them through the one and only Streeter brand new so I have all the documentation from Work to certify. Comes with the centre caps too.

Nissan 180SX Complete Vacuum Lines/Hoses Setup

Hi guys,

I'm in need of a huuuge favour.
I brought a 180sx about a month ago and I suspect it may be low on vaccum. If someone body could take pictures or draw up a diagram of all their vaccum lines, I'd be able to make sure everything is setup properly and then begin looking for leaks. Some of the hoses were blocked/disconnected so I need to make sure everything is sweet. The car still runs reasonably well, but on the odd occasion, particularly and always if I leave it running in neutral for too long, it runs sluggish and starts "bouncing" at low rpm for a couple of seconds (3-5 seconds... has gone on longer once). I'll check out all the vacuum lines and then start looking at ECU/timing/ignition/fuel if I can't pick up on anything.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

On a recent overseas trip my camera gear got stolen. super sad face =(

i'm getting it all replaced as they were all insured but i couldn't help but notice that i felt so much lighter without my DSLR, i've always travelled with an SLR and this time i felt free without the burden!

so it got me thinking, what if i got a lighter camera just for travelling.

anyone recommend a good lightweight camera and i don't want point and shoot so I was looking at something like the Fujifilm X100 or one of the mirrorless cameras like the Sony or Olympus but then with those I'd probably have extra lenses so, leaning on the Fuji X100 as a good contender.

i read that rangefinders are good for travelling.

Key things i'm looking for are to be able to shoot in RAW and have full manual control when I to.

budget is between $1500 - $2000, I did see that Leica are releasing the X2 soon as well.

i recently reshelled my sr20det into a shell which had an sr20de in it, im not at the finnal stages of the reshell and i cannot get it to start, it will turn over but it does not sound like it has spark. ii noticed that there was one plug not conected from the loom and also a plug not connected from the fuse box under the bonnet, both the plugs do not match, i have a felling this may have something to do with the plugs. im lost with this problem its done my head in.

type x abs 5 stud conversion help

i have a bit of a problem

i picked up recently a full 5 stud conversion kit with r32 gtr no brembo brakes, i went to install them yesterday and the standard front end knuckles have abs lines running to them, which the new ones don't, i would like to keep the abs because it dosent hurt to have it and im sure it wouldn't be legal to remove safety features on your car, what can i do to still put on my new brakes and have 5 stub hubs and keep the abs working

the backs will go in no problem, but is there an abs sensor in the rear of the car, i think i remember reading that it is in the diff, will the abs work if i replace the diff

one thing i looked in to was drilling the old hubs to a 5 stub pattern, i don't really like this idea,

is there a s14/s15/skyline hub the i can just press in to the s13 hub so i can keep the standard front knuckles so the abs works, also with this will the new calipers bolt to the standard s13 mounts

and what bmc would be recommended

any help would be very much appreciated

So the audi family car’s fuel pump went, I’ve replaced the filter and currently trying to get the in tank pump out – need to disconnect the fuel return line to get enough clearance to reach in and loosen the pump.
So anyone know how to undo this type of clip – squish with pliers, seems a bit stubborn?

took out the s15 first time in about a month.
got pulled into a RBT "setup up"

lady asked me to move forward and pulled over saying "EPA, EPA"
now the male officer had a note pad and looked like he took my number plate down.
i was told nothing more than to move on after that.

looks like i will be receiving an EPA notice in the mail.
the question i have is can i avoid it before they sort out the paper work.

the only thing i can think of is to go to the RTA and change numberplate hoping they wont follow the trail.

yes i no i should just cop it on the chin and the rest of the crap, but if i can id like to squirm my way out.

Hey all, just thought id post a thread asking what everyone uses to tow and how it tows ! Heard about a poor fella towing to winton for the may practice day, got the old sways happening and ended up loosing his track car, rental trailer and his commo ute. that freaking sucks balllll sack.

I usually tow to winton with my ef falcon, it doesnt mind getting the trailer sways up unless i really load it far forward on the trailer till my rear mud guards are on the ground on the ford (soft suspension ), then its fine. only has a 1600kg rated tow bar but all up its towing about 2200kg or so and its fine. sits on whatever speed limit not a drama, on the hume when coming up to hills i always knock it back to third gear and it doesnt loose speed or anything. i tow from traralgon and it gets 400kms from a tank, pretty happy with that !!!!

anyway the parents bought a new car a second hand 07 vw touareg v10 twin turbo diesel thing, its like new only has 50.000kms, and at the last practice day i got dad to tow my s13 on the trailer home to traralgon for me, as they showed up half way during the day to come watch, anyway it managed 12.7 litres per hundred kms towing ??????? crazy fuel economy, and at the same time managed to out tow basically any other car with 750nm to spare. absolute yowing machine. air suspension had no problems dealing with the extra weight the car simply levelled and was ready to go. when we pulled back onto the hume from winton heading to melbourne, i had to feed it in my ford just to try catch up to dad in the vee bud while he was building up steam to set to 110. couldnt believed how it pulled.

how does everyone else go towing ???? ever get any sways ??? what cars have you guys mnaaged to tow best with, cheers !

Now car won't start or anything I've rewired the stock ecu..

But I sit don't have ignition, or taillights, wipers, powerwindows, hazards.... No electrical anything!!!

i have a top feed fuel rail with a spacer to fit some new injectors to my silvia.

i have the injector harness out of the car and its confusing me.

i have worked out that there is continuity between the thick red wire that goes to each plug, and im assuming that its the earth and that the smaller wires with the black trace must be the positive wires that energise the injector and make it work.

what i cant work out is which is which on my new injectors. they are 2000cc bosch/injector dynamics ones.
